’80s Punk Redesigned

Occasionally random online surfing leads me into random terrific cutting-edge graphic design.

Just when I think I’ve exhausted the limits of the boundless web, I come across a site like swissted.com.

Swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer Mike Joyce, owner of stereotype design in NYC. Joyce combined two polar opposite movements, punk rock and swiss modernism, and redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters. Each design is set in berthold akzidenz grotesk medium, all lowercase.

These are posters of concerts that actually happened. The poster at top is a redesign of the B52s Kansas City concert at Max’s in 1978. They’re a joy to look at for his brilliant use of color, typography and minimalist design.

There are over 200 posters that can be purchased at swissted shop.com.

    • Great link! As far as Mike, the lines will definitely blur. There are so many redesigns of everything probably because of so many out of work designers!
