San Francisco Lightning Storm

Eight bolts of lightning struck San Francisco’s Bay Bridge during a thunderstorm that blew through the Bay Area on Thursday night.

Phil McGrew, an amateur photographer, shot this spectacular once-in-a-lifetime shot out of his apartment window capturing all eight bolts striking the San Francisco landmark. A record 750 bolts hit the Bay Area–unusual for an area known more for its earthquakes than thunderstorms.

It’s a lucky break for McGrew who took up photography as a hobby two years ago.
