Jazz Photography: The Greats

John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk–these jazz greats may be gone but their legendary status is alive and well through their music and the photos that capture them at the peak of their careers when cool jazz and bebop were fresh, new and life-altering. The symbiotic nature of jazz and photography is well-documented (The Jazz Image: Masters of Jazz Photography, by jazz photographer Lee Tanner) and serious jazz lovers never tire of finding another exciting image of one of their jazz heroes. Images that conjure up a smoky Paris nightclub where the music mingles with the clinking of ice in glasses and occasional yelps of joy.
