It’s hard to believe that all it takes to produce these stunning images is steel wool, a simple kitchen utensil (a whisk), a steel cord, matches and an area that won’t burst into flames if a spark hits it. (You’ll also need to bring a fire extinguisher!) The other requirement is a camera with an adjustable shutter speed and a tripod for long exposures. The expertise comes with time to create the perfect circles and patterns. San Francisco photographer Tom Keller is just such a master of the art, finding the perfect backdrops creating these magical images.
One last tip: Wear a hat!!
